This lesson will focus on Moribana Chokuritsu-kei (Upright Style) using two varieties of medium chrysanthemums. Joe will begin with a brief overview of the arrangement’s key elements and demonstrate the placement and purpose of the principal stems and filler stems. Then you’ll create your own arrangement.

The lesson is held at the Yokoso Center, 1175 Old Henderson Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43220.
Your container should be a low shallow bowl, deep enough to hold a kenzan. It can be round, oval, or a half-circle.
Two kenzans. Rectangles (about 2.5" x 3") are preferred although rounds (2" in diameter) are acceptable. Both don't have to be the same

Moribana Chokuritsu-kei (Upright Style) expresses the beauty of materials rising upward from a low bowl, emphasizing strength, clarity, and natural growth.
In this lesson, we'll use two varieties of medium chrysanthemums to study the standard framework of the Upright Style and the important role each stem plays in creating the finished arrangement. This foundational Ohara School study also serves as an introduction to the traditional Three-Variety Chrysanthemum Arrangement.

Joe has studied ikebana since 1993. Joe is an Associate Second Term Master in the Ohara School of Ikebana and one of only two Certified Instructors for MyFrame in the United States (as of Spring 2024). Joe was featured in the Spring 2024 edition of 614 Refined magazine (pages 22-24).
Joe is the Founder and President of the Central Ohio Shibui Ohara Chapter. He is also Past President of the Miami Valley Ohara Chapter, a member of the Southeastern and Northern Ohio Ohara Chapters, and a member of NAOTA and EOTA.
